App growth involves store discovery, product-page presentation, paid acquisition, and what users do after installing. Download volume alone does not show whether users activate or stay.
Separate store-page work from paid acquisition
App Store Optimization is a broad term for improving an app listing and its presentation. Apple and Google Play offer tools to compare some listing assets and text, but their experiment options and measures differ. Check the current console documentation before choosing a test.
A listing test can compare variants against a stated metric. It does not establish long-term retention or revenue by itself. Treat store conversion and post-install behavior as separate questions.
Ask how the agency measures post-install use
Before a campaign starts, agree which events matter, who owns analytics, and how acquisition will be compared with activation, retention, or purchases. The app team should explain how those measures connect to product goals.
Check scope and responsibilities
- Which listing assets and languages are included?
- Who owns campaign setup, budgets, and experiment decisions?
- How are store tests separated from paid-media tests?
- What access, reporting, and app changes are required from your team?
Apple describes its Product Page Optimization tests in its App Store Connect guidance. Google Play documents store listing experiments. Use the current platform instructions and avoid assuming that listing tests measure retention or revenue.
